Specchiopiuma – litterally “feather mirror” – is an ultra light mirror panel consisting of a metallic polyester film stretched over an aluminum structural frame.
It has a very high reflection coefficient (> 90%) and weighs ~ 1.5 kg/m2 (~0.31 lb/ft2). The panel is 27 mm (1.062 in) thick.
See this technology implemented in Svoboda’s La Traviata from 1992 staged by Henning Brockhaus.
As stated on the producer’s website www.specchiopiuma.it:
Main features:
Light: The light weight of the panels (~ 1.5 Kg./Smq.) allows a simple and safe installation of very large frames.
Safe: The lightweight mirror panel does not have the security issues related to the use of traditional glass plates for ease of transport, handling, storage and reuse.
Optical quality: The metallic film having superior optical quality, guaranteed by the lack of thickness (23 microns). No deformation phenomena, refraction or fog.
Antistatic: The mirrored surface is not-Static. The frequency of cleaning is minimal being limited dust deposits or volatile material.
Washable: The surface is washable with common neutral glass cleaner.
Unbreakable: The film is durable and very resistant to shocks. If properly maintained, it can last indefinitely. Any wrinkles and dents can be removed with a hair dryer hot air. Product dread cut.
Eco-friendly: The materials used and the production process guarantee the 100% recyclability in the event of possible disposal making the product Environmentally friendly.
Regenerable: In case of rupture of the film, the aluminum frame can be coated repeatedly.
Usable: The modularity of mounting solutions for all elements, makes the product versatile and adaptable to any need. It comes with an extremely simple and dynamic Mounting Systems for application and vertical (wall) or horizontal (ceiling).
Customizable: The realization of measurement of the construction of the panels allows for maximum customization of the elements that can be produced in various shapes and sizes with predisposition of light and punctures points to disegno. Direct printing is possible and also the application of adhesive graphics.
