Born in Geneva, Etienne Pluss begun studying at the University of the Arts in Berlin in 1992 with Achim Freyer. After three years as an assistant at the Burgtheater in Vienna, at the Salzburg Festival, at the Hamburg Opera House and at the Berliner Ensemble, he begun designing his own sets in 1998 for the theater as well as for the opera with directors George Tabori, Patrick Schlösser, Enrico Lübbe, Adriana Altaras, Philip Tiedemann, Peer Perez Øian and Katharina Thoma. His path takes him from Berlin (Staatsoper, Berliner Ensemble, Zeitgenössische Oper) to Vienna (Burgtheater, Akademie Theater, Theater an der Josefstadt, Volkstheater), from the theaters of Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Kassel, Oslo to the operas in Frankfurt, Basel, Hanover, Berlin, Prague and Gothenburg, among others. In 1999, he received the Austrian prize “Förderpreis zur Kainz Medaille”. Etienne Pluss also creates sets for fashion shows (Hugo Boss, Adidas, Joop, Michalsky) in Milan and Berlin.
